Jake Duckworth was an athlete who achieved considerable success at Napa High School. He played some baseball as a freshman and sophomore and some tennis as a senior, but it was his record in football and basketball that was outstanding. Duckworth was a three-year varsity basketball player and All-County in two of those years. He was All-League in his senior year and was a key player and leader of the 1995 Napa High team that went all the way to the Northern California Sectional Tournament before losing in the final game. Duckworth was the captain and starting quarterback on two of the best football teams in Napa High history. During those two years, Napa never lost a league game and compiled an overall record of 23 wins and two losses. He earned All-County and All-League honors, and it was his leadership ability and work ethic that was praised most highly by his teammates and coaches. In his senior year, Duckworth was named Napa High’s Male Athlete of the Year, Napa County Scholar Athlete and KVON Athlete of the Year. Duckworth was also very involved in the Napa High School choral program, singing in Chamber Choir for three years and being a member of the elite Vocal Music Workshop. The object of competitive sports is to win and few Napa High athletes achieve that object as often as Jake Duckworth.
