Jena Mello graduated from Napa High School in 1990 after an outstanding career in three sports. In her senior year, her talents in volleyball, basketball and softball earned her All-MEL honors in each of the three sports in which she participated and the title of Napa High Female Athlete of the Year. She was also named to the All-Napa County team in volleyball and basketball and to the Napa Valley Invitational All-Tourney team in softball. Mello’s leadership ability was recognized by her teammates, as evidenced by her being elected captain of the volleyball and softball teams and co-captain of the basketball team. During her high school career, she was also recognized as recipient of the 1990 Napa Valley Unified School District Outstanding Citizenship Award, 1989-1990 Vallejo Times Herald Athlete of the Year finalist, 1989-1990 KVON Sports Boosters Athlete of the year finalist, 1989 Napa High School Student Body Vice President and nominee for 1989 Homecoming Queen. After graduating from Napa High, Mello continued her education at Cosumnes River College-Sacramento, U.C. Davis and Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff where she earned her degree in Physical Education. She received her Masters in P.E. from Azusa Pacific University in 2000. Mello is married to Blake Scripps, is the mother of two children and continues to have an active role in athletics with her job as a physical education teacher and assistant varsity volleyball coach at West Valley High School in Hemet, California.
