Mandy Stephens was a three-sport standout during her years at Napa High, excelling on the volleyball and basketball courts, as well as the track & field teams. As the Indians’ Female Athlete of the Year during her senior campaign, she was captain and MVP of the 1998-1999 volleyball and basketball teams, in addition to being named to both sports’ respective All M.E.L teams. She was also a member of the All County team for both sports, and named Napa County Player of the Year for her senior volleyball efforts. Stephens also led the Indians to an undefeated M.E.L. Championship and Section Semifinal appearance in volleyball in her junior year. A four-year varsity basketball star, she was a member of the NHS basketball squad that made two CIF playoff appearances during her freshman and sophomore seasons. Stephens was also named Defensive Player of the Year during her junior year. Stephens also excelled in track & field in the high jump. As a sophomore, she qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section Meet with a 4’8″ jump in the M.E.L. finals. She also placed third at the M.E.L. finals (5’0″ jump) and Section Finals (5’2″ jump) during her junior year. Stephens went on to accept a full-ride volleyball scholarship to Arizona State University where she received the ASU “Scholar Athlete” Award in 2003. In her final season at ASU, she set a school record for highest hitting percentage (.383%).
