Her extracurricular activities at Napa High included two years as a member of the school’s best vocal group, the Napa High Vocal Workshop, and she was a class officer all four years. Her athletic and scholastic achievements at Napa High earned her a scholarship to Fresno State University, where she continued her athletic performances and was captain of the cross country and track teams. Nelson’s athletic achievements at Napa High included two years as fullback on the soccer team, two league championships on the cross-country team, three visits to the state cross-country meets, selection as Napa Valley’s top female athlete in her junior year and setting several Napa High School record times. Her track and swimming records include first place finishes in the 800, 1600, and 3200, two state meet appearances, Most Valuable Swimmer of Napa High, and Female Spring Athlete of Napa Valley.
