As the son of a football coach and college athletic director, it is no surprise that Jerry Dunlap would follow in his dad’s footsteps, and it was Napa High’s good fortune that landed Dunlap in Napa.

Dunlap grew up in Southern California and played his high school football at Buena High in Ventura. An accomplished quarterback, he earned a scholarship to the University of Nebraska where he played from 1986 to 1989 for coach Tom Osborne.

Dunlap began his coaching career at Napa High in 1994 as the head JV football coach. He would soon be promoted to the head coaching job where he won four straight MEL titles from 2002 through 2005.

Though stepping down from head coaching duties after the 2005 season, Dunlap continued to use his football experience while assisting then varsity head coach Troy Mott for over ten years. A physical education teacher, Dunlap also served as Chairman of the Napa High Physical Education Department.

Today, Dunlap continues his family’s tradition in athletic administration as he serves as the Athletic Director at Napa Valley College. Dunlap and his wife Katy live in Napa.
