John Colledge was an all time great athlete at Corning High School and Chico State College. In high school, Colledge had an incredible record as a four year star in all four major sports – football, basketball, baseball and track. He continued his outstanding achievements at Chico State where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Colledge was elected to the Chico State Hall of Fame and as a member of the “Team of the Century”. While pitching at Chico State, Colledge lost one game in four years, a record which earned him a brief professional career before arm problems turned him to coaching.
Colledge’s record at Napa High:
1932-36 Football: 1 NBL Title
1937-42 Varsity Football: 2 NBL Titles
1933-42 Boys Basketball: 1 NBL Title
1943-50 Varsity Basketball: 3 NBL Titles
1940-50 Varsity Baseball: 1 NBL Title
It is not the championships won or lost that established John College as a Hall of Fame coach. Colledge was a man of high principles and character who was respected by all athletes who played for him. He was the kind of man that all parents would like to have coach and teach their sons and daughters.
