Dr. J.C. Pickett became the fifth person inducted into the Napa High School Hall of Fame in the Special Category reserved for those people who did not play sports at Napa High, but whose actions have contributed to the success of the athletic program or brought recognition to the school. Pickett initiated a medically-sponsored program in 1971 for the benefit of Napa High School athletes and solicited the help of other doctors to insure the success of the program. Free preseason physicals and medical advice to student athletes were just part of the benefits of the program he was involved with for the 30 years between 1971 and 2001. After his resignation in 2001, Pickett was recognized by the Napa Valley Unified School District for his outstanding service and dedication. During his tenure, he was primarily responsible for insuring that a medical professional was available on the sidelines of Napa High football games. Pickett is a graduate of West Virginia University and the Medical College of Virginia. Among his many involvements in the medical community, Pickett was President of the Napa County Medical Society in 1980-1981 and President of the California Medical Association in 1999-2000. He was a member of the High School Heath and Athletic Injury Committee and served as team physician for Napa High School.
